Kingsmen Edge TKR By 7 Runs In Rain-Affected Queen’s Park Oval Clash
The Trinbago Knight Riders suffered a tough 7-run defeat to the Jamaica Kingsmen last evening at the Queen’s Park Oval. Rain played spoiler, ending this contest early in the 15th over as Jamaica chased.
A special moment ahead of the contest when it was announced that Dwayne Bravo’s number 47 jersey will be retired.
And the smiles continued when his Trinbago Knight Riders were sent in to bat by the Jamaica Kingsmen at the Queen’s Park Oval, courtesy of openers Sunil Narine and Colin Munro.
The duo picked up from where they left off in the last game against the Tridents.
Narine got his second successive half-century in just 24 balls, which included 3 sixes and 6 fours.
Munro fell short of his half-century in the last game, but not today with his impressive knock.
When Narine fell for 53 in the 9th over, TKR had posted 101 on the board. Munro then departed for 52 at the start of the 14th over. 120 for 2 at the time.
He was undone by Vitel Lawes, who removed Kieron Pollard with the very next ball, a golden duck. The 19-year-old Jamaican spinner then got rid of Matthew Trump with the last ball of the over. 3 wickets in a maiden over, and the momentum swung to the visitors.
Nicholas Pooran’s courageous unbeaten 60 helped T&T to a competitive 180 for 6 despite the threat of rain.
The Kingsmen started a little more conservatively, losing their first wicket in the second over with 18 runs on the board.
Kirk McKenzie was dropped soon after by Sunil Narine before he went on to form a potent 50-run partnership with Keacy Carty. When McKenzie departed for 30, his team stood at 68 for 2.
Soon after, the rains came, but the Kingsmen now held the better Net Run Rate.
After the interruption, Carty continued for a useful contribution of 42 and was joined by Saim Ayub, who struck 24 not out as their team got to 127 for 3 in the 15th over before the showers returned. Just after 11:30, a decision was made, handing the Jamaica Kingsmen a 7-run DLS win over the Trinbago Knight Riders.
