The flash flood warning has ended, but the problems have started for families who are now displaced.

The warning was discontinued at 5 p.m., but not before more rains battered eastern parishes, as well as the Corporate Area and sections of St. Catherine.

The flooding in sections of eastern St. Thomas was made worse due to the Island and Plantain Garden rivers overflowing their banks.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security says 54 homes were reportedly flooded, and a dozen people were sheltering at the nearby Bath Primary School.

It said food items, toiletries and blankets will be distributed to those at the shelter.

Drone footage shows a breakaway in the roadway caused by the erosion of the riverbanks.

Several homes are at risk.

TVJ News has been reliably informed that Works Minister Robert Morgan is expected to visit the area to gauge the threat and level of damage.

Meanwhile, Communications Manager at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw, says a team is working to clear the major roadways.
