Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander has called on citizens to embrace the spirit of unity and work together to build a brighter future for Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking at a Divali celebration in Caroni Central hosted by Housing Minister and Member of Parliament Dr David Lee on Monday, he reflected on the deeper meaning of Divali and called on citizens to support one another and work together to bring positive change to the country.
« This festival is light over darkness and good over evil. We continue to support each other, continue to look after each other. Make sure and take care of your MP, and all will be well, and everything will be fine. We intend to change things in Trinidad and Tobago, and we’re asking for your assistance. Let’s continue this light; no more darkness in Trinidad and Tobago. Let the light so shine. »
Meanwhile, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen paid tribute to MP Lee’s political journey, highlighting his perseverance, consistency and commitment to public service.
She said that while many focus on dramatic performances, lasting success in leadership often comes from remaining steadfast and committed through difficult periods.
« He has been a fighter. He has stayed the course. And you see that thing called perseverance. A lot of people look for dazzling performance. But the truth is that a lot in success and leadership, whether it is in politics, in business, or in being a representative, lies in being consistent. And Dr David Lee has been consistent. »
Minister Ameen also reflected on MP Lee’s years in Opposition, noting the challenges he faced while coordinating opposition activities and navigating difficult political circumstances.
« Even in opposition, when he served as Leader of the Opposition bench, he coordinated our activities in Opposition, and he remained persistent. There were many dark days. There were many challenging days. And he stood the course. Not everyone can stand the course. So today I pay tribute to him. »
