I Love Tobago - Shania Phillips Eyes Regional Tourism Crown After Tobago Success
While students are preparing for a new school year, one Tobago student Shania Phillips has another big event on her agenda.
The Signal Hill Secondary school student is gearing up to represent Tobago in the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s Regional Tourism Congress Youth Congress in Guyana.
New Tobago Junior Tourism Secretary Shania Phillips continues to bask in her success at the Tobago Tourism Youth Congress with her eyes set on bringing home the regional title in October. She expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support of her family, teacher Ms. Patrice Caruth, and the many well-wishers who encouraged her throughout the journey. Shania explained that alot of research and practise went into her preparation for the local competition.
Though preparation was tedious, her involvement came from an innate love for tourism.
Shania is counting down the days to the regional competition.
Viewing herself as a tourism ambassador, Shania hopes to inspire other young Tobagonians to take pride in the island’s tourism industry and rich heritage. She believes competitions such as the Tourism Youth Congress play a vital role in fostering that sense of pride, while encouraging young people to become tourism advocates.
During her term as Junior Tourism Secretary, Shania aims to involve and educate young people.
Shania also recently completed an internship with the Division of Tourism, Antiquities and Creative Industries, an experience she described as both rewarding and enriching.
She expressed appreciation to the Division for providing opportunities that allow Tobago’s youth to gain hands-on exposure to the tourism sector, while developing valuable skills such as public speaking, leadership and professional communication.
