97 bales of suspected marijuana were seized during a joint operation by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the United States Coast Guard over the weekend.
The suspected drugs were transported to the RBDF’s base this afternoon. According to Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Captain Derrick Ferguson, a U.S. air asset detected a speedboat on Saturday as it was entering Bahamian waters. Ferguson said after it was detected, the vessel started heading back into international waters.
He added that before the vessel could re-enter international waters, the RBDF gave a nearby U.S. Coast Guard cutter permission to board and search the vessel, leading to the discovery of the suspected drugs.
