Inspired by the young people of Aranguez/St Joseph, a new initiative has been launched aimed at turning ideas into thriving businesses.
In partnership with the National Entrepreneurship Development Company Limited (NEDCO), the Transforming Hope Into Revenue, Innovation, Value and Enterprise Programme brings together public and private sector partners to support the next generation of entrepreneurs, providing them with training, mentorship and access to funding.
NEDCO CEO Danny Maharaj assured that participants will be supported throughout their entrepreneurial journey.
“Fundamentally, in the entrepreneurial journey, there needs to be a systematic approach in the way entrepreneurs are developed. So initially there needs to be that training component, that business advisory component, that mentoring component, and, of course, you need funding. So every step through the business journey, from start to scale, we are going to be there to ensure we take people to the success point.”
Member of Parliament for Aranguez/St Joseph and Minister of Justice, Devesh Maharaj, said the programme is supported by the business community, and entrepreneurs will be provided with valuable mentorship and resources.
“We have an access one time to a huge base of manufacturers not only in the constituency but throughout Trinidad and Tobago. Many of them are inclined towards CSR, and they’re willing to take a few entrepreneurs under their wing immediately to help fund, start and hold their hands. So exciting times for Aranguez/St Joseph.”
Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, Khadijah Ameen, said the initiative is about empowerment while encouraging economic growth.
“It speaks not only about empowering the person who might be the beneficiary but also how the economy could be stronger, and I think it is really something exemplary. I was really impressed with the presenters. I was impressed with the concept. So I think it is kudos to NEDCO as well as to MP Devesh.”
Minister of Labour, Small and Micro Enterprise Development, Leroy Baptiste, called for continued collaboration for the development of the country.
“Let us continue to work together hand in hand to build Trinidad and Tobago where enterprise is encouraged, innovation is rewarded and every citizen has the real opportunity to succeed.”
The programme is expected to create up to 100 new entrepreneurs within six months, with plans to expand across the country.
