PM Extends Sympathy Following Deadly Earthquakes In Venezuela, Offers Support

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has expressed heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Venezuela following two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude on Wednesday evening.
The tremors struck less than a minute apart at approximately 6pm local time, with the second quake reported as the strongest to impact the South American country since 1900.
In a social media post on Thursday morning, Mrs. Persad-Bissessar said Trinidad and Tobago’s thoughts, prayers and solidarity are with all those affected.
She also assured that the nation stands ready to provide humanitarian assistance in any way during this difficult period.
The Prime Minister further extended wishes for safety, strength and a swift recovery to the people of Venezuela as they cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
Up to news time, the death toll had climbed to at least 188, with more than 1,500 people injured and approximately 200 others still trapped.
