The National Road Safety Council is calling for 24-hour camera surveillance to curb excessive speeding following Saturday’s fatal motor vehicle crash along the PJ Patterson Highway.

A 25-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Toyota Hiace bus involved in the crash, died.

Information from the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) suggests the bus was travelling at more than 110 kilometres per hour along the highway early Saturday morning.

NRSC Vice Chairman Dr. Lucien Jones says the incident also reinforces the need for artificial intelligence-powered drones to assist with traffic surveillance.

The fatal crash was the eighth recorded during the first eight days of August.

Airdate: August 9, 2026.
