Since its launch in 2025, the North Zone Alma Mater Football Invitational has provided a platform for former secondary school footballers to reconnect, compete, and relive the camaraderie of their playing days.
This year, teams from eight schools gathered at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex, battling for the 2026 title in a spirited display of fellowship and competition.
The 2026 North Zone Alma Mater Football Invitational saw a showcase of some of this country’s most memorable teams that competed in the Secondary Schools Football League.
This year’s edition featured Fatima College, St Anthony’s College, St. Francis, Barataria, Queen’s Royal College, Tranquillity, Diego Martin Secondary and El Dorado Old Boys – all reconnecting to compete for top honours.
The final at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex saw a clash between Fatima College and El Dorado.
Just minutes after kick-off, Fatima earned a penalty after some grappling inside the box.
Number 80, Josimar Belgrave, stepped up and calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to open the scoring.
The El Dorado Old Boys would level the score in the second half. A burst of pace by Karim Kasim saw the forward finish decisively. It was 1-1 in Diego Martin.
The score remained 1-1 after 90 minutes as the match was set to be decided by penalty kicks.
After 14 perfect kicks had been converted, the decisive moment came when Fatima dragged their eighth spot-kick wide of goal.
That allowed El Dorado Senior Comprehensive Old Boys to score the winning kick, taking the shoot-out 8-7.
At the awards ceremony, tournament founder Kwesi Peterson presented QRC’s Tristan Charles with the Golden Glove Award for best goalkeeper.
Winning the Golden Boot Award for most goals was Fatima’s Josimar Belgrave.
The prize for Most Valuable Player then went to El Dorado’s number 11, Cordel Samuel.
