The West Indies hopes of winning the One Day Series against Sri Lanka were dashed on Saturday with rain forcing an abandonment of the second One Day International in Jamaica.

The West Indies won the toss and decided to field against Sri Lanka in the second One Day International at Sabina Park in Kingston.

Skipper Shai Hope felt that with the possibility of evening showers the decision to let the tourists bat first was the right one. Unfortunately, the rains came earlier than expected in Jamaica with the match being abandoned without a ball being bowled.

T&T’s Amir Jangoo had gotten the nod to play for the injured Barbadian Matthew Forde who has a thigh injury.

The rain also dampened a special occasion for skipper Shai Hope, who was playing in his 150th ODI for West Indies. He received a special jersey to mark the moment.

Sri Lanka won the first ODI by 41 runs, so the West indies can draw the series if they win the third and final One Dayer on Monday evening at Sabina Park.
