Senate Pays Tribute To The Mighty Sparrow
The Senate joined in extending condolences to the family, friends and supporters of the Mighty Sparrow, with Minister in the Ministry of Finance Kennedy Swaratsingh paying tribute to the calypso legend’s immense contribution to Trinidad and Tobago.
Minister Swaratsingh described Sparrow as a true son of the nation whose voice helped shape the country’s identity and introduce Trinidad and Tobago to the world.
“The passing of the Mighty Sparrow represents the loss of a true son of Trinidad and Tobago whose voice helped define who we are as a people and how the world came to know us. Sparrow was far more than a calypsonian. He was a storyteller, a social commentator, and a cultural force who transformed everyday experiences, struggles, humour, and aspirations of our people into music that transcended generations and borders.”
He said Sparrow’s legacy is immeasurable, with his music continuing to educate, entertain and inspire generations to come.
“Though we mourn his passing, the legacy he leaves behind is immeasurable, for his songs will continue to educate, entertain, and inspire long after this moment of loss. Trinidad and Tobago has lost an icon, but the Mighty Sparrow’s voice will forever echo in our calypso tent, our carnival stages, and in the hearts of generations yet to come.”
The President of the Senate, Wade Mark, led the Upper House in a minute’s silence after paying tribute to the calypsonian.
