Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has announced significant progress on the Loran-Manatee gas field, describing it as a major step forward in cross-border energy cooperation and regional development between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says BP, XRG of the UAE, and Qatar’s UCC Holding have signed on to develop Phase Two of Venezuela’s Loran gas field, following Shell’s involvement in Phase One.
The two phases are expected to deliver about seven trillion cubic feet of natural gas to Trinidad and Tobago for processing through its LNG and petrochemical facilities.
Venezuelan Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez described the agreement as a major breakthrough after more than two decades of efforts, saying it will help position Venezuela as both an oil and gas exporter.
The cross-border Loran-Manatee field is seen as a critical resource for boosting Trinidad and Tobago’s gas supply amid declining domestic production.
