Two explosions killed at least 103 people and wounded scores at a ceremony in Iran to commemorate top commander Qassem Soleimani who was killed in a 2020 U.S. drone attack, Iranian officials said on Wednesday. Iranian state television reported a first and then a second explosion during an anniversary event at the cemetery where Soleimani is buried in the southeastern city of Kerman. State TV showed Red Crescent rescuers attending to wounded people at the ceremony, where hundreds of Iranians had gathered to mark the anniversary of Soleimani's death. "A terrible sound was heard there, despite all the security and safety measures. We are still investigating," head of Kerman Red Crescent Society Reza Fallah said. "We are now evacuating the wounded and injured in the area. The crowd is huge and the job is quite hard, all the paths to there are blocked." Displaced Palestinians living in a refugee camp in Rafah mourned Hamas deputy leader, Saleh al-Arouri, who was killed on Tuesday in Lebanon. They said they hope his death will encourage other leaders to emerge and fight for the Palestinian cause. “If Saleh al-Arouri is gone, a million others will emerge," one displaced Palestinian said. Israel has not denied that it killed Saleh al-Arouri in a drone strike in the Lebanese capital on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Japanese authorities released transcripts of conversations with the control tower regarding the collision of a passenger jet and a Coast Guard plane at Tokyo's Haneda airport. According to the transcripts, the Japan Airlines Airbus was given permission to land while the Coast Guard plane was directed to a holding point short of the runway. “I think the cause of this accident was not a mechanical issue from the aircraft; it was a human error,” said Hiroyuki Kobayashi, former Japan Airlines pilot and aviation analyst. Aruto Iwama, who was on the burning plane, expressed his fear during the incident and said that “Honestly, I was scared to death.
