Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey is appealing to Barbadians to donate books and other educational resources to children in state care. Delivering remarks at the Child Care Board's World Book Day event, held at Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, Minister Humphrey said such donations play a significant role in supporting the literacy development of children in residential care. During the event, which coincided with Child Abuse Awareness Month, members of the public donated books to the Child Care Board's book drive. The Leo Club of Bridgetown donated more than fifty books to the cause. The National Library Service was also at the location distributing free books to children and interested adults. Employees of the Library Service held a puppet show and read stories to a group of excited children. Minister Humphrey extended gratitude to those who contributed to the drive.
