Ex-armed forces minister warns defence spending will need to rise

Former armed forces minister James Heappey has said spending on defence is likely to increase even more in coming years as the UK looks to counter threats from Russia and China. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced today that an extra £75bn would be spent replenishing ammunition supplies and readying the country for any potential conflict. But Mr Heappey warned even more would need to be spent - and that would mean cutbacks in other areas.
