Barbados is set to welcome hundreds of descendants of Barbadian emigrants from Liberia next month. They will be on island as they take up an offer made through the inaugural Sankofa Back to Barbados Pilgrimage from May 6-13. The pilgrimage is being organised by Ambassador Llewellyn Witherspoon, in collaboration with the Barbados Government, 159 years after our ancestors departed Barbados for Liberia. It also takes place during Barbados' season of emancipation. Special Advisor on Culture and Cultural Heritage, Senator John King says a packed agenda is planned. He shed some insight during CBC TV8's Mornin' Barbados. Coordinator with the Division of Culture in the Prime Minister's Office, Dr. Sherron Johnson says it's important Barbadians know about the connections between Barbados and Liberia.
