Floridians May Soon Be Able To Smoke Weed Recreationally Very Soon | Facing South Florida

15/04/24
CBS Miami

In this week's edition of Facing South Florida: In November, voters will be able to decide whether recreational marijuana will be available in Florida to anyone 21 or older. CBS News Miami's Jim DeFede talks to the CEO of Trulieve, the cannabis company that spent $40 million to gather the signatures to get the measure on the ballot. This week, the Florida Supreme Court said the state privacy provision of the state constitution does not protect a woman’s right to have an abortion. And, because of that ruling, Florida’s six-week abortion ban will take effect on May 1st. But the court also agreed to allow a constitutional amendment protecting abortion in the state in the November ballot. Jim talks to State Senator Lauren Book about what it all means. Plus, DeFede goes one-on-one with political and community activist and former rap superstar Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell who talks about making a run for U.S. House seat held by Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. That district covers portions of Broward and Palm Beach counties. Campbell talks about why he is running, and what makes him qualified to run. Uncle Luke and Jim also discuss some of the big problems in the district as well as issues important to South Floridians, which includes his plan to take action to end the crisis in Haiti. Campbell has until April 26th to officially declare that the is running.
