The limited scope of the attack and Iran's subdued reaction both suggest effective diplomatic efforts to prevent full-scale war, particularly following Iran's recent drone and missile assault on Israel. Iranian media and officials characterized the explosions as the result of Iran's air defenses intercepting three drones above Isfahan. Significantly, they portrayed the incident as an assault by "infiltrators," sidestepping direct blame on Israel and thereby avoiding the necessity for retaliation. An Iranian official informed Reuters that there are no immediate plans to retaliate against Israel for the incident. Earlier Iran launched dozens of drones towards Israel in retaliation for an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus earlier this month. The Israeli military said that it was on high alert and monitoring all targets. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened the Israeli war cabinet at military headquarters in Tel Aviv after Iran's attack. Meanwhile, the US said it stood by Israel and will "support their defence".
