Israeli airstrikes in Rafah killed at least 35 Palestinians and injured dozens on Sunday, in a designated area for the displaced, according to Palestinian health officials. The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted a Hamas compound with precise ammunition based on accurate intelligence. Palestinian health officials reported that most of the casualties were women and children. The attack occurred in Tel Al-Sultan, where many had taken shelter from ongoing Israeli ground offensives. The International Committee of the Red Cross and local hospitals are overwhelmed with casualties. Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri called the attack a "massacre" and blamed the United States for supporting Israel. The Israeli military stated the strike followed the launch of eight projectiles from Rafah, despite a UN court ruling to cease attacks. Prime Minister Netanyahu's war cabinet is discussing continued operations, asserting the need to root out Hamas fighters. Efforts for a truce and hostage return have stalled, though talks may resume based on new mediator proposals. Aid trucks are entering Gaza via Kerem Shalom following an agreement between the U.S. and Egypt, bypassing the blocked Rafah crossing.
