The Philippines House Committee on Human Rights opened an inquiry into extrajudicial killings related to the controversial "war on drugs" led by former President Rodrigo Duterte. Testimonies are being heard from ex-officials and victims' families. Although the committee won't cooperate with the ICC, it can investigate Duterte. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr claims a non-lethal drug war, yet 661 killings were reported since his term began. Despite govt figures of 6,200 deaths under Duterte, human rights groups cite over 30,000. Duterte withdrew from the ICC's Rome Statute in 2019 after it probed his drug war.
