Public urged to report crimes

Not reporting a crime is a serious matter. High Court Judge, Madam Justice Barbara Cooke-Alleyne wants Barbadians to keep this in mind as she warned of the consequences. She says failing to report a crime can empower a criminal and impact the country. Mrs. Cooke-Alleyne's comments came during the second awards ceremony for the "Use Yuh Voice...If You See Something, Say Something!" literacy competition. She believes the competition is timely given concerns about the increase in crime, and says it's important Barbadians recognise they have to take care of each other. Mrs. Cooke-Alleyne reminded citizens reporting a crime is not snitching. The competition, hosted by Community Officers of District A was opened to schools both public and private, located within the Barbados Police Service's Bridgetown division. Sergeant Christopher Griffith says the competition forms part of the force's 'Saving Our Community Children' project which commenced in 2017. He says it is aimed at impacting the lives of young people and providing opportunities to showcase their abilities.
