While Barbados officially celebrates National Heroes Day today, Members of the St. Cyprian's Anglican Church saluted their heroes from the Carrington Village community on Sunday. The eleven were recognized for their outstanding achievements in various fields. Skilled workers were among the honourees. They are seamstress Eleanor Blackman and tradesman Muhammad Nassar. Franklyn Gill and Anthony Clarke were recognised for excelling in sports. Icons Desmond Weekes and Geoffrey “Biggie Irie" Cordle, received awards for their contributions to music. BARP President Marilyn Rice-Bowen was the lone recipient of a prize for her community service endeavours. Angela Barrow and Harriett Gill were lauded for achievements in nursing, while Grace Wickham and Jacqueline Holder were honoured as educators. Chair of the Special Projects Committee, Zelma Daisley, says the idea to honour the eleven stemmed from a sermon delivered earlier this year by Canon Wayne Isaacs. It was around the question - “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Subscribe to CBC News: http://www.youtube.com/cbcbarbados Connect with CBC News Barbados Website: https://www.cbc.bb/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CBCNews.bb/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cbcnewsbarbados/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/CBCBARBADOS #CBCTV8 #Honours #Heroes
