Taiwan-China tensions: Taipei looking to break with the past

China’s military has wrapped up two days of military drills around Taiwan. The manoeuvres are meant to signal a warning to the island’s new government, not to pursue independence. Beijing regards Taiwan as a renegade province, vowing to return it to its control one day, by force if necessary.
