United Methodist Church contemplates overturning four-decade ban on gay clergy

The United Methodist Church has decided to overturn its ban on gay clergy, a decision that comes after about four decades, leading to over a quarter of the churches separated from this denomination. We spoke with Reverend Katye Chambers from Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church about the ongoing conference in Charlotte, North Carolina who said that this is a difficult debate that isn’t going to end anytime soon. Chambers says that, for most of their history, as United Methodists, there has been language in their governing book that says that homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching.
