In a passionate address to supporters, Akeel Guy, prospective candidate for Bethesda/Les Coteaux, issued a blistering critique of the current political representation in Tobago, declaring that communities are too often « remembered only when votes are needed and forgotten when work must be done. »
Speaking on the platform, Guy argued that representation has become merely « symbolic » rather than effective. He called for a shift in leadership style that prioritizes tangible results over excuses.
« The statement we make tonight is clear: Tobago deserves better, » Guy stated. He specifically highlighted the needs of Black Rock, Plymouth, Bethesda, Les Coteaux, and Whim/Woodend, insisting that these areas are in desperate need of « leadership that delivers results… solutions not silence. »
Questioning Development and Maintenance Guy posed direct questions regarding the state of community facilities and the quality of life in Black Rock and Plymouth. He challenged whether recent investments in Tobago have translated into real improvements for residents.
« Have our lives improved, Black Rock? Are our facilities maintained? Is it fully utilized, Plymouth/Black Rock? No, » Guy asserted. « Has the investment made in Tobago translated into tangible improvements at this community? It has not. »
A Call for People-Centric Representation Concluding his address, the prospective candidate emphasized that the time has come for a change in governance. He stated confidently that the communities are ready for representation that is deeply connected to the electorate.
« Plymouth/Black Rock are ready for representation that works with the people and for the people, » Guy declared.
