Farley $4M Bloody Bay Hub Worth It
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has staunchly defended the expenditure of over $4 million on the Bloody Bay Blue Food facility, outlining a vision for the site that extends far beyond a once-a-year culinary festival. Speaking at a Tobago People’s Party (TPP) campaign meeting in Speyside ahead of the upcoming THA elections, Augustine described the project as a critical investment in the future of L’Anse Fourmi, Bloody Bay, and Parlatuvier.
Augustine revealed that while the project has already cost just over $4 million, the development is ongoing. He announced that a learning resource center will be established on the same site to provide an alternative to the community center currently situated on private lands. This new facility is set to feature « smart classrooms » designed to revolutionize education for residents in the north-side communities.
The Chief Secretary emphasized that the focus for young people in the area must shift towards academic and professional achievement. He argued that the youth in these villages « could do more than just make babies, » stressing that they must also « make subjects, make degrees, and make trade and skills » to contribute meaningfully to their families and community development.
Beyond education, the site is being positioned as a multi-purpose economic hub. Augustine noted that villagers from L’Anse Fourmi are currently in the process of securing approval for a paintball facility. The vision includes a space for paintball, ATV tours, camping, and year-round Blue Food dining options. Augustine declared he has « absolutely no regrets » about spending millions on the people of Bloody Bay and L’Anse Fourmi, asserting that they deserve the same level of investment and development as any other part of Tobago.
