Managing Director of FireOne Fireworks, Andre Abraham, has thrown his full support behind the government’s recent decision to double fines for traffic offences, calling it a step towards restoring respect and order on the nation’s roadways.

Speaking to TTT News, he stressed the need for tougher penalties across the board, saying the move aligns perfectly with his broader call for a culture of responsibility and patriotism.

« I think doubling is not enough. I think this lawless behaviour needs to stop. We need to, and it’s a lot, we need to be, we need not to be selfish. We need to be kind. We need to be our brother’s keeper. We need to understand that to build T&T, the Prime Minister and her Cabinet can’t do it on their own. We all, as citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, have to get involved. And we have to go back to that trust and respect we have for each other. »

He argued that penalties should be even more severe, not just for traffic offences but for any act that undermines public safety and respect.

« You found drinking while driving, $20,000. You use a scratch bomb, $20,000. And then take that money to fund the agencies that enforce these laws. We can’t live in a lawless society. And if we allow to break the law on small topics, then there’s no distinguishing the bigger, bigger topics. You can go from littering to drunk driving to rape or murder. So we need to nip it in the bud. »

Mr. Abraham believes these measures will not only curb reckless driving and other traffic offences, but will also hold motorists accountable and help build a safer and more respectable society.
