Wayne « Wasp » Clarke, representing the Tobago People’s Party (TPP), addressed a passionate crowd in Lambeau ahead of the January 12 THA elections, placing a spotlight on grassroots development and human dignity.

Speaking at a political meeting in his district, Clarke dismissed debates surrounding the renaming of the William McKenzie Park, asserting that the function of the space matters more than its title. His focus remains on creating a safe environment where families and children can relax.

Clarke argued that true development starts with people rather than just buildings. To that end, he highlighted a critical lack of basic amenities at the facility, specifically restrooms. He passionately stated that while men might resort to using the surrounding bush, requiring women and children to do so is unacceptable. He emphasized that the youth must be allowed to grow and develop with dignity, necessitating proper facilities.

In a move demonstrating community self-reliance, Clarke announced that the new toilet facilities currently under construction are not funded by government coffers. Instead, the project is being driven by donations from citizens both inside and outside the constituency. He detailed how pallets of blocks and cement were contributed by supporters who believe in the cause, proving that the community can achieve its goals through collective effort.
