Talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy concluded in Florida with expressions of optimism regarding a potential end to the war in Ukraine. Both leaders highlighted significant progress on key issues, though they acknowledged that challenges remain. President Zelenskyy described the discussions as highly productive, stating that a 20-point peace plan is « 90% agreed » upon. He also noted that security guarantees between the U.S. and Ukraine are fully agreed, while broader security arrangements involving European partners are nearing completion. The military dimension of the agreement was reported as 100% settled, with a prosperity plan currently being finalized.

President Trump echoed these positive sentiments, characterizing the meeting as « terrific » and suggesting that a resolution is « getting a lot closer. » However, he admitted that « thorny issues » persist, specifically citing the status of Russian-occupied territories as a major unresolved point. When pressed about a potential « free trade zone » in Donbas and separation lines, Trump cautioned that « agreed » might be too strong a word, preferring to say the sides are « getting closer » to an understanding on these complex territorial questions.

Trump also revealed that he had received a positive response from Russian President Vladimir Putin, suggesting Moscow is also interested in making a deal. He relayed that Putin appeared supportive of Ukraine’s success and reconstruction efforts, even mentioning potential energy supplies at low prices. Trump emphasized that neither he, Zelenskyy, nor Putin wants the conflict—and the loss of life—to continue.

Despite the diplomatic progress, the situation on the ground remains volatile. Reports indicate that Russia intensified attacks on Kyiv in the days leading up to the meeting, underscoring that while talks advance, fighting continues without an immediate ceasefire.
