Farley $1B Debt Slashed
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has vigorously defended his administration’s fiscal record, declaring that the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) successfully managed a near $1 billion inherited debt while simultaneously funding critical development. Speaking on the campaign trail ahead of the January 12th elections, Augustine framed his tenure as one of financial responsibility and transparency.
He addressed national security concerns directly, referencing the « radar issue » and outlining how proposed autonomy arrangements would finally give Tobago a legitimate voice in its own security and international relations. On the topic of infrastructure, Augustine pushed back against allegations regarding contract awards, stating the administration has « fact-checked » and disproven claims that contracts were predominantly sent to Trinidad.
The Chief Secretary also highlighted the administration’s housing and land use policies, which he noted are specifically designed to assist Tobagonians who cannot afford traditional mortgages. He reiterated the party’s commitment to accountability, promising to always be honest about which projects were finished, which were not, and the reasons why.
