Ricky Earned $10M under PNM

The political atmosphere in Tobago intensified as Ancil Dennis, leader of the People’s National Movement (PNM) Tobago Council, addressed a meeting in Whim ahead of the upcoming Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections. In a direct challenge to the opposition’s narrative, Dennis revealed that Ricky Joefield, the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) candidate vying for the Darrel Spring/Whim seat, had been a significant beneficiary of the previous PNM administration.
Dennis disclosed that Joefield, a contractor by trade, received nearly $10 million in contracts during the PNM’s tenure. He highlighted the irony of Joefield now running against the very party that facilitated his business growth, questioning the opposition’s claims that the PNM did not prioritize Tobago locals. The PNM leader argued that while the opposition chants « Tobago is We, » their actions suggest « Tobago is Them »—a select group allegedly selling out the island’s interests to friends in Trinidad.
The speech also scrutinized the current administration’s handling of key assets, with Dennis urging voters to question who currently owns the Friendship Estate and No Man’s Land. He characterized the last four years as a period defined by victimization and corruption, urging the electorate to reject these practices at the polls.
Looking to the future, Dennis pledged that a returned PNM government would govern without bias. He assured the public that « Tobago belongs to every single Tobagonian » and that there would be no distinction between « PNM contractors » or « TPP contractors »—only Tobago contractors. In a message directed specifically at Joefield, Dennis stated that even as an opponent, his business would face no victimization and could continue as usual under a PNM administration, reinforcing a commitment to fairness and inclusivity for all 60,000 residents of the island.
