With the January 12 election date drawing near, Tobago People’s Party Political Leader Farley Augustine has outlined a strategic vision for the Pembroke area, focusing on niche tourism development and community infrastructure upgrades.
Addressing supporters, Augustine highlighted the significant potential of the Richmond Road district, describing the river and beach areas as underutilized assets ripe for « exclusive tourism opportunities. » He detailed plans to introduce « glamping » (luxury camping) and kayaking activities at the river mouth. Augustine confirmed that a team of young people from the area has already been engaged to fix and clean the beachfront, aiming to bring the location into the « public mainstream » and create sustainable economic opportunities for the community.
In addition to tourism, the Chief Secretary addressed the need for improved recreational facilities in Pembroke. He acknowledged the importance of the informal sporting ground for annual community activities and committed to necessary upgrades. Augustine linked these improvements to a broader health mandate, asserting that the district—represented by the Health Secretary—must lead by example in promoting physical fitness and well-being.
On the topic of general infrastructure, Augustine noted that road rehabilitation works have already been executed in Top Hill and Zion Hill, with further plans to improve the road network in the pipeline.
