Farley PNM Most Anti Black Party

Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has launched a scathing attack on the People’s National Movement (PNM), branding it as the « most anti-black party in the country » during a fiery address on the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) platform. Speaking ahead of the upcoming elections, Augustine warned supporters not to be deceived by the party’s image or traditional rhetoric.
Augustine argued that the PNM engages in strategic deception, « walking around fooling poor black people » into believing they are a party that represents their interests. He contended that despite the party’s projected identity, the reality of their governance excludes the very people who support them.
He asserted that once the party assumes office, the benefits are reserved exclusively for the « one percent »—a demographic he explicitly described as people who « don’t look like me and you ». He claimed that while the party seeks the votes of the black working class, its policies strictly serve the elite.
Using a vivid local metaphor to drive his point home, Augustine recalled how a former Prime Minister was historically referred to as a « roast breadfruit ». He explained the analogy by stating that while the individual appeared « black outside, » the « inside [was] still white ». He further doubled down on the description, remarking that the inside wasn’t even the yellow of a « good butter breadfruit, » but stark white, implying a total disconnect from the black identity and interests the party claims to champion.
