The Tobago People’s Party (TPP) has won the 2026 Tobago House of Assembly elections.

By 10:05pm on Monday, Leader of the PNM Tobago Council, Ancil Dennis, conceded defeat, saying the party ran a good race, but the people had spoken.

« It was not meant to be obviously and, as I said before, that is democracy at work and, as is always the case in the PNM, we respect the wishes of the people of Tobago and we accept these results in this election. »

Mr. Dennis also told reporters that he will step down as leader of the PNM Tobago Council to allow the party to usher in new leadership.

« I intend to support a transition to new leadership within the Tobago Council of the People’s National Movement. I will be 39 on Wednesday and I will be calling it a day or perhaps a week in politics. I consider it a great opportunity and a great responsibility to serve the people of Tobago but following the results of this election I will be stepping aside, at an appropriate time of course. It will be done responsibly to ensure that there is as smooth as possible a transition to whoever will emerge as the next leader of the PNM here in Tobago. In fact, we are due to have internal elections in April of this year which is what in three months and I will discuss with the leadership all the possibilities including the possibility of having the internal elections sooner than they are due so that we can transition and prepare for the next four years »

Mr. Dennis noted that the PNM lost by very narrow margins and the party will be seeking recounts in those seats.
