Homeland Security Minister Dismisses Reports He Will Limit Public Sharing Of CCTV Footage
4 hours ago
Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander is dismissing claims that he intends to introduce legislation to restrict the public from releasing CCTV footage of police‑involved incidents.
He stated: « Everybody has a camera on their house, not so? How can you legislate against that? Think about it. You know what I said? If I have a camera on my home, I have no problem putting it out in the social media, but give the authorities an opportunity to investigate first. That’s all I was saying, you know. So probably we need to say, Well, hey, before you do that, give it to the relevant authorities. »
The Minister explained that allowing investigators to review the footage first reduces the risk of tampering or manipulation.
« Now, with the advancement of AI and all these things, we have to be careful. And then, what people don’t know or are aware of, you, as the house owner, have to give evidence in this matter, because you have to describe how you gave me possession of this. So, my lady, and for members of the public, I see even, say, CNC3 or somebody put up something, oh, $10,000 I don’t know where they that came from. Utter rubbish, as usual. »
