The TTUTA Tobago Office now has a new representative.
Deon Rodriguez was elected Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) Tobago Officer, after receiving 328 votes in the Association’s recent election.
Following his victory, Mr. Rodriguez officially assumed the position. Speaking at his installation ceremony, he described the portfolio as a call to service.
« I would therefore lead with purpose, responding promptly to teachers’ concern, defending their rights and advocating relentlessly to ensure fair and just treatment in every school while keeping Tobago teachers’ voices strong, respected, and influential within TTUTA. »
TTUTA President Crystal Ashe said the new Tobago Officer will receive the full support of the Association’s national executive. He noted that the installation of Mr. Rodriguez was timed ahead of TTUTA’s national retreat, which took place on Monday.
« Today’s installation also signals a clear direction for TTUTA going forward. The reality coming forward is our educators demand greater advocacy, closer coordination, and a unified approach towards their representation. As national officers, we are committed to working more closely and more deliberately with our Tobago officers, ensuring continuous engagement, shared decision making, collective actions to be taken and addressing all concerns of our brothers and sisters in Tobago. »
Meanwhile, Division of Education School Supervisor II Phillip Rochford said officials look forward to continued strong representation, guided by cooperation and mutual respect.
« I look forward to the challenges and us even more finding the solutions to those challenges that will benefit our teachers because what is good for TTUTA is good for the nation. »
Representatives from both the Division of Education and TTUTA also expressed gratitude to outgoing TTUTA Tobago Officer Bradon Roberts for his years of service. Mr. Roberts, in turn, encouraged the new Tobago Officer to remain resolute and committed to representing teachers, while pledging his continued support.
