Minister of Equity Hon. Emma Hippolyte Pledges Support to Displaced Mother and Children
The Ministry of Equity and Social Justice, with responsibility for women and children, is saddened by the unfortunate incident that led to a single mother becoming homeless and displaced because of the destruction of her dwelling place. The Ministry, through its Social Protection Units, provided immediate support to ensure the family’s well-being. The family’s safety, as well as the educational care for the children, are of paramount importance to us, as a Ministry responsible for women and children.
Our intervention and focus highlighted the government’s broader commitment to protecting vulnerable groups, especially women and children, and ensuring that no family is left without support in times of crisis. The Ministry is pleased with the outpouring of support and empathy demonstrated. This sentiment of care and compassion is encouraging and speaks to a nation that cares for those in need.
Assessments and follow-ups, which include counselling services and referrals to relevant services, continue.
