After nine days of delay in India, members of the West Indies team are finally heading home from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Cricket West Indies has confirmed that commercial travel has been secured, following repeated delays with a charter flight that was meant to transport both the West Indies and South Africa teams back from the tournament.

The charter, organised by the International Cricket Council, was held up by what the CWI describes as global tensions and aviation regulations, creating growing uncertainty and distress for players and support staff.

The regional board says it advised the ICC that waiting was no longer prudent and that multiple parties, including CWI, players, and other partners, worked in coordination with the ICC to arrange commercial alternatives.

Some squad members have already departed India. The remaining players and staff are scheduled to leave late Tuesday and Wednesday, March 11th.

Cricket West Indies is thanking fans and stakeholders for their support and patience during what it called a distressing situation.
