Rampant Jabloteh Hammer Point Fortin Civic 5-1
In the opening game at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Saturday, a beleaguered Point Fortin Civic FC faced a rampant San Juan Jabloteh, who compounded the woes of a once-great team.
Point Fortin is known as “Football Town T&T”, but their team has fallen on lean times of late in the TT Premier Football League. Point Fortin Civic FC came into their Match Day 20 encounter at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva languishing at the bottom of the standings and were set to face a youthful and speedy San Juan Jabloteh side who, in sixth place, still cling to hopes of Concacaf play.
The scoring started early in this match-up. Andel Fraser latched on to a pass from Dwight Jordon and placed his shot well to beat Civic goalkeeper Terrence Lewis — 1-0 to Jabloteh in the third minute.
That would be all the scoring in the first half. Civic, to their credit, went after the equaliser early in the second period. Isaiah Jacob showed determination to get his shot away, forcing a save from Justin Dos Santos.
Jabloteh responded quickly. Fraser’s free kick was parried away by Terrence Lewis, but Dwight Jordon was there to clean up the loose ball and make it 2-0 in the 56th minute.
It must be said that Point Fortin Civic had their opportunities but were either unlucky or denied by some good work from Dos Santos — including a strong effort from captain Ezekiel Kesar.
Jabloteh answered again. Malachi Webb punished some lax defending to score Jabloteh’s third goal in the 68th minute.
It became 4-0 in the 83rd minute when J’Lon Matthews finished off a pass from Isaiah Leacock.
Civic would finally see an effort pay off in the 87th minute, as Jacob met the cross just ahead of Dos Santos to score.
But the theme of the match continued, as Jabloteh responded almost immediately. A fine run and delivery by Caden Trestrail set up Nikosi Foncette, who finished in the 89th minute.
San Juan Jabloteh secured a commanding 5-1 victory over Point Fortin Civic FC, who must now begin seriously contemplating life in Tier 2.
