Over 200 reports of road traffic accidents (RTAs) have been reported in Tobago for 2026 so far.
With the upcoming Easter holidays approaching, the Tobago Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is urging visitors and locals to be cautious on the roads.
Senior Superintendent Rodhill Kirk expressed concern about the number of road fatality reports on the island.
« We know we don’t have the luxury of wide spaces so that vehicles can traverse freely, but we have noticed that some of the drivers along the roads in Tobago they use excessive speed and reckless driving. These are main contributors we are seeing now in terms of these road traffic accidents. »
He said the TTPS is appealing to drivers and the motoring public to strictly adhere to traffic laws and drive with increased caution to help minimise road fatalities.
« Be warned, be warned, we are going to enforce the traffic laws, and we are going to deal with motorists as we see fit if they should breach these traffic laws and regulations. Time for us to taper down on our attitudes on the roadway. »
The TTPS is also urging pedestrians to exercise caution.
