Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro has placed faith-based partnerships at the centre of the TTPS crime-prevention strategy, announcing expanded collaboration with the Spiritual Baptist community.

Speaking at the Spiritual Baptist Liberation Day observance in Couva on Monday, he said crime prevention could not rest on policing alone and pointed to structured cooperation with faith organisations.

He revealed that just days earlier, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the National Congress of Incorporated Spiritual Baptist Organisations agreed in principle to formalise their collaboration.

« Just this week, the TTPS and the National Congress of Incorporated Spiritual Baptist Organisations of Trinidad and Tobago, don’t ask me to say it again, we reaffirmed our partnership in our meeting at the Police Headquarters, and together we agreed on an agreement in principle and in the spirit of the law to establish a joint working council that will drive coordinated, community-based crime prevention initiatives across all 10 divisions. »

He said such partnerships formed part of a broader “whole-of-society” approach, inviting religious and non-religious groups alike to participate in crime prevention initiatives.

« Originally established in 2022, this same initiative was proven to be of value to faith partnerships in supporting law enforcement. And today, I reaffirm, I say again, I reaffirm the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the Commissioner of Police, our commitment to inclusive engagement. We welcome every group, religious and non-religious alike, to join us in this mission to build safer communities. »
