Two U.S. citizens, Tevin Williams and Zakiya Williams, have been deported from Trinidad and Tobago to the United States to face federal drug trafficking charges.
The pair, originally charged in California and New York in 2023, fled after being granted pre-trial release. They were arrested in La Romaine on August 19, 2025, by the Transnational Organised Crime Unit and the DEA’s Vetted Unit, before the Ministry of National Security issued a deportation order on August 21.
On August 22, both fugitives were escorted back to the U.S. by American and Trinidadian law enforcement agencies in a coordinated operation. Officials described the simultaneous return of two fugitives as unprecedented in the region and credited the strong partnership between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago. U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Charlie Franta praised the cooperation, noting that it demonstrates what the two nations can achieve together in combating transnational crime.
