HACKETT TEMPORARILY IN CHARGE OF TOURISM AND CULTURE
Assemblyman Zorisha Hackett has been temporarily assigned responsibility for the Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation, mere weeks before the Tobago October Carnival.
The move comes without explanation from the Office of the Chief Secretary and notably sidelines Assistant Secretary Niall George, who was not given the opportunity to deputise in the absence of Tashia Burris.
Hackett, who currently serves as Secretary of Education, Research and Technology, will now carry both portfolios.
What’s raising eyebrows, however, is the warm embrace from Carnival stakeholders. The Tobago Promoters Association and the Tobago October Carnival Association have both publicly welcomed Hackett’s appointment, signalling clear enthusiasm for her leadership at such a critical time.
With Carnival preparations in full swing and the timing of the reassignment…the silence on why it was deemed necessary has not gone unnoticed.
