Tobagonians across the western and northern ends of the island have been clamouring for water. Some noted that for more than a week they have been without a supply.

On Sunday, WASA Tobago Region Acting Head Brian Williams said that over the past two weeks the company has been plagued with a number of mechanical issues and major pipeline breaks, which have resulted in a disruption in the reliability of supply to a large portion of the island.

« At this point I am pleased to announce that all the mechanical issues have been sorted, and we are at present attempting to catch up with respect to the customers and the schedules that were not been met. This exercise is ongoing, and we ask that as we attempt to restore supply to these areas, that you please bear with us. »

Mr. Williams added that while customers in Crown Point and environs received some supply of water on Sunday, they continue to be impacted by unseasonably low river flows.

« At this point we are in a position where the surface water sources, the levels are way less than they have been in the previous years and at this point in the rainy season. The Courland Water Treatment Plant, for example, the production is 60 per cent less than it has been. This has affected and continues to affect our ability to meet and treat with the existing supply schedules. »

To this end, Mr. Williams said the Authority is in the process of adjusting the water schedules to reflect what they are able to deliver under the existing conditions.
