Police foiled an attempted aerial delivery of contraband near the Arouca Maximum Security Prison on Sunday night.

A statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service said based on intelligence about the delivery of prohibited items via drone, officers apprehended three suspects approximately 50 metres from the prison wall.

A substantial quantity of contraband was seized, including narcotics, cigarettes, drone equipment, and communication devices. Simultaneous searches at the Maximum Security Prison, uncovered further illicit items.

Officers also searched a known offender’s premises under Section 12 of the Emergency Powers Regulations 2025, and impounded a vehicle suspected to be linked to the smuggling attempt.

Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro commended the officers for their swift intelligence led operation, which disrupted a sophisticated smuggling attempt and recovered a significant (cash)cache of contraband.
