Today, September 30th, marks the deadline set by the High Court and Industrial Court in their landmark ruling against the Tobago House of Assembly regarding the Community Partnership Unit.
The court ruled in favour of the affected workers and ordered the THA to pay a total of $ 4 million to 13 fired contract workers. However, the Minority Leader, Kelvon Morris, noted that the workers have not yet received payment. The Office of the Minority Leader noted that last week, the Executive Council rushed through a motion awarding former Assembly Members millions of dollars, even though many had already received gratuities, and made them eligible for pensions after serving only one term. As a result, they stand to receive at least 40% of their highest salary for the rest of their lives. Morris described the situation as “unjust, vindictive, and shameful,” and urged the THA to end the double standards and pay the workers without further delay
