SELF HELP COMMISSION NOW UNDER OPM
The National Commission for Self Help Limited, the state body tasked with providing essential home and community repair grants across Trinidad and Tobago, has been abruptly reassigned to the Office of the Prime Minister.
The move, confirmed in Gazette No. 146 of 2025, follows urgent action by the Government to address what the Ministry of Culture and Community Development termed a quote… “grave financial crisis.” End quote. The agency faces a net deficit of $10.8 million and owes over $16.2 million to contractors, crippling the delivery of grants and community projects nationwide.
Adding to the troubles, the Commission has spent $1.37 million on staff salaries, including the former CEO, a position for which the Commission is now accepting applicants.
