While global conflicts and crises continue to make headlines, Divali Nagar 2025 offers a powerful alternative, a message of hope, unity, and love.

Under the theme “Loka Sangraha,” meaning the welfare of the world, the celebration encourages citizens to embrace meaningful acts of kindness.

Speaking on the Third Night of Divali Nagar 2025, the Mayor of Chaguanas, Faaiq Mohammed, said this message is timely, offering a powerful reminder of the beauty found in Trinidad and Tobago’s rich diversity. In a world often marked by division, anger, and pain, he believes meaningful change begins with the quiet, everyday choices we make, and is calling on citizens to sow the seeds of a better world.

« When we see the lights of the deyas flickering in the evening sky, let us remember that each flame represents hope, each flame represents faith, each flame represents the possibility that even in our darkest moment, light can shine. »

The Mayor also reflected on the strength he has seen within communities, but reminded citizens that true change begins within, and that a better world begins with the personal choices we make ourselves.

« When we choose compassion over cruelty, service over selfishness, and humanity over division, we are not only transforming ourselves. We light the way forward for others. »

Head of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements Unit at the Ministry of Planning, Economic Affairs and Development, Kishan Kumarsingh, reminded that in addition to caring for ourselves and each other, there is another crisis unfolding — one that is quieter but no less urgent. He warns that environmental harm and pollution are accelerating a planetary emergency that demands immediate attention.

« We live in an age where human activity has altered the Earth’s climate, threatening ecosystems, biodiversity, and the very rhythm of life itself. Floods, droughts, melting ice sheets, and rising seas are no longer distant warnings. They are realities that affect millions, and the threat is slow but sure. »

The Divali Nagar continues until Sunday, October 19th, when Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC will take centre stage, as Trinidad and Tobago continues to host the largest Divali celebrations outside of India.
