As many organisations continue to lend their efforts to rebuilding Jamaica after the passage of Hurricane Melissa, one fundraiser is doing so through a benefit concert.

The World Is One Family Concert will be held at 6pm this Saturday, November 8th, at the NCIC Divali Nagar in Chaguanas, and it promises to be an evening of unity and love.

According to Ravi Rambarran, the Team Leader for The World Is One Family Concert, five groups have assembled to do their part in Jamaica’s recovery and rebuilding.

« The groups that I represent, the National Council for Indian Culture in Jamaica, Prema Satsangh – Jamaica and because I’m the team leader of this effort, National Council for Indian Culture – Trinidad, SEWA TT, and the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Trinidad, which runs all of the Vedic primary schools, we have come together because we are a part of civil society and said, ‘What can we do?' »

Mr. Rambarran shared the stark reality that Jamaica is now faced with, highlighting that initial estimates for property damage alone are about US$4 billion.

He said all proceeds will go towards the relief efforts, which will be carried out in stages, with the final tranche focused on the rebuilding of climate-resilient homes.

« The first step is food, the second step of the assistance will be helping with building materials, and not at a very high level, simple building materials, galvanise, as you say in Jamaica, zinc, nails, and plyboard. »

Physical tickets are available at the gate, or can be purchased on Island E-Tickets. A streaming service will also be provided for people abroad to partake and contribute.

Mr. Rambarran urged everyone to do what they can to assist.

« Remember this: disaster may strike Jamaica today, but tomorrow it may strike Trinidad. »
