With the 2025/2026 cruise season recently started and two ship calls made thus far, Tobago’s tour guides are expressing dissatisfaction with the logistical arrangements implemented at the Scarborough Port.

TTT News visited the port, where operators were gathered. They indicated passengers who did not book tours were disembarking from the back of the port’s terminal.

Tobago Port Taxi and Maxi Federation of Associations’ Cloyd Williams told TTT News a meeting was requested with the Port Authority on the matter.

« They put us in the back there in the sun, in the rain, no tent, no toilet facilities. Even our catchment area is not conducive for any kind of development there. Some of our workers decide they will not be going back to the back there, so I am hoping that this situation can be resolved in a nice way. »

Mr. Williams shared a recommendation which will be presented to the Authority to provide smooth operations. Included in their recommendation is reverting to their previous arrangement.

« I don’t see no reason for moving us from inside the building where we served the incoming and the outgoing cruise passengers and we are hoping that we can go back where we were. Where we are sheltered properly, washrooms are there. The tourists can come in and out. The little souvenir shops are there. »

TTT News reached out to the Port of Scarborough’s Executive Manager, Dion Lawrence, who explained the tour operators were provided a room, tent, table, chairs, and access to the refurbished washroom at the terminal building.
